Veneers

We are here for you at every step

Veneers are an effective way of repairing chipped, stained or misaligned teeth. The procedure involves attaching a thin layer of tooth-coloured porcelain to the front surface of the tooth. Veneers are a fast and long-lasting way to brighten and straighten your smile.

Before appointment:

  • We will assess your teeth and discuss various treatment options with you. Alternatives to Veneers can be Composite Bonding (using composite filling materials to change the shape of the tooth), Braces treatment or Crown.
  • The upside of Veneers is that it provides a very natural finish. The downside of Veneers is that the cutting of heathy tooth structure can cause long term sensitivity. Veneers are an irreversible procedure and will need replacing every 5-15 years.

During appointment:

  • Appointment 1: Your tooth will be prepared to make space for the Veneer on front of the tooth. If needed, your tooth will be numbed using a local anaesthetic. Then impressions will be taken of the prepared tooth to send it to the laboratory. The shade of your Veneer will be decided to best match the neighbouring teeth. Temporary Veneer will be placed in this appointment. Please make sure that you avoid biting directly onto the prepared tooth and keep it clean.
  • Appointment 2: The Temporary Veneer will be removed, your tooth will be cleaned and the Veneer will be cemented and we will check your bite. Please be aware that it will feel strange and different to your natural tooth at first.

After treatment:

You can expect sensitivity and tenderness after both appointments.

Your bite will feel strange, but it should all settle down in 1-2 weeks. If you feel further adjustments are needed after that, please give us a call to make an appointment.

FAQ

How long do Veneers last?

How long do Veneers last?

Your veneers are durable and designed to last many years. Regular dental checkups will not only help maintain your natural teeth but also allow your dentist to monitor your dental restorations for potential damage or hazards to your veneers. The average lifespan of a dental veneer is about 5-10 years. With great care and treatment, it is possible that the time-frame can be lengthened, up to 20 years. However, if your veneers are chipped, cracked or simply worn down, you may have to replace your veneers early.

Will Veneers damage my teeth?

Will Veneers damage my teeth?

Veneers will not damage your teeth but some enamel may need to be removed from the front to make space for veneers. Your dentist will fully examine your teeth and take X-rays beforehand to make sure the teeth underneath are healthy and not decayed so are suitable for veneers to be placed. They will be able to tell you if you are suitable for veneers.

If you are not suitable for veneers, there are alternatives such as composite veneers, bonding, orthodontic or brace treatments, teeth whitening or just teeth contouring. The most important factor is that you are told of all the options with risks and benefits so that you make the right decision

Veneers can be used to treat a number of cosmetic concerns. Chipped teeth are one of the many dental issues that porcelain veneers can fix. They offer an excellent, minimally invasive treatment option to improve the overall health of your mouth as well as the cosmetic appearance of your teeth.
