Examination

We are here for you at every step

An examination allows us to keep your mouth healthy and to see if you have any dental problems. Regular examinations can help treat problems early and often prevent them altogether.

Before appointment:

If you are a new patient, we will need you to fill and share your medical history form with us by email, before your appointment. This way, we will be aware of any medical conditions you have or medications you take and can tailor your treatment according to your health. In addition, we will also send you information on joining our monthly dental plan (Denplan), which is a great to maintain your oral health. We can discuss joining Denplan at the end of your appointment as well.

If you are an existing patient, please inform the receptionist of any changes in your health, medications, or any oral health problems you are facing before your appointment. This will help us book sufficient time to address those matters when we see you.

During appointment:

We will

  • Ask you questions about any problems you’ve had since your last check-up
  • Examine your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks and tongue
  • Take X-rays (if needed) to check for any hidden problems such as decay or bone loss
  • Check for any signs of mouth cancer or other general diseases that can affect the mouth
  • Refer you to a hygienist for a clean if you have a build-up of plaque
  • Give you advice on things you can do to improve your oral health
  • Provide a treatment plan for any necessary treatments

FAQ

How often should I visit a dentist?

How often should I visit a dentist?

Most dentists recommend having a cleaning and check-up every 6 months. Depending on your specific oral health needs, twice a year should suffice, unless your dentist recommends that you need to visit more often than that, especially if you have ongoing oral health problems. Even if you keep up with your oral hygiene routine and take care of your teeth, visiting the dentist is still very important because your dentist can spot issues that you cannot yourself.

Getting to know the different approaches available to deal with anxiety be that a longer treatment time, relaxation techniques like music or anesthesia to avoid pain also helps.

Do dentists check for oral cancer?

Do dentists check for oral cancer?

Your dentist will check for signs of oral cancer as part of your regular dental checkups. When dentists perform a dental checkup, they’re not just examining your teeth. They evaluate the overall health of your oral cavity and scan for any abnormalities around the mouth area. They do this through a visual and tactile examination. If your dentist identifies any suspicious areas, they will work with you to determine the best next steps for your care.
